DJI has launched the DJI Neo, a compact and lightweight drone designed for creators. Weighing just 135 grams, this easy-to-fly drone offers 4K video recording, making it a great tool for content creators on the go. Priced at $199, the DJI Neo is a budget-friendly option that doesn't compromise on quality, offering impressive features for its size and price point. Perfect for capturing stunning aerial footage with ease.

The newly launched DJI Neo aims to revolutionize drone flying with its user-friendly features and compact design. This tiny, lightweight UAV is easy to operate, even without a traditional controller, relying solely on a smartphone.

This concept of controller-free operation isn’t entirely new for DJI. In May 2017, DJI introduced the DJI Spark, a small drone that could be controlled using hand gestures or a mobile phone, in addition to the classic remote controller. The DJI Neo appears to be an evolution of the Spark, offering significant improvements. Weighing just 135g (4.76oz), the Neo is much lighter than the Spark, which weighed 300g (0.66 lbs). The Neo's 2-inch propellers come with prop guards, making it safer and more durable for flying near people. Additionally, the Neo features a much better camera with up to 4K30fps video capability, compared to the Spark’s 1080p30fps limit.

The DJI Neo offers multiple control methods, including using only a smartphone, a remote controller, or DJI goggles, ensuring flexibility for various user preferences. The drone also inherits the Easy ACRO mode from the Avata 2, allowing it to perform acrobatic maneuvers with a single button push when used with the DJI RC Motion 3 controller.

In terms of camera capabilities, the Neo is equipped with a 12MP (4000×3000) 1/2” image sensor and an f/2.8 ultra-wide lens with a 117.6° field of view. The camera offers various recording options, including 4K video at 30fps and 1080p at up to 60fps. However, to keep the weight down, the Neo does not feature a 3-axis gimbal, instead offering a single-axis gimbal for up/down tilting.

Despite its lightweight design, the Neo can fly in winds up to 8m/s and supports automatic follow modes with subject tracking. The drone also features built-in storage of 22GB, as it does not have a MicroSD card slot. One standout feature is its ability to record audio through the DJI Mic 2 or a smartphone, with the DJI Fly app automatically eliminating propeller noise.

The DJI Neo's battery can provide up to 18 minutes of flight time and can be charged using a USB-C cable or through DJI’s new two-way charging hub, which supports simultaneous charging of multiple batteries.

DJI has introduced several packages for the Neo, including the standalone version for $199 and the Fly More Combo for €349, which includes additional batteries and a remote controller. Accessories such as the DJI Goggles 3, DJI RC Motion 3, and DJI FPV Remote Controller 3 are available separately.
