Florence Pugh says her body ‘went into a bit of trauma’ after shaving her head for movie role
British actress Florence Pugh has shared that shaving her head for her latest film role was a “really bizarre” experience that left her body in a state of “trauma.” The 28-year-old underwent the drastic change for the movie *We Live in Time*, a heart-wrenching romance where she stars alongside fellow British actor Andrew Garfield.
The film, which spans a decade of a couple’s relationship, takes a dramatic turn following a life-altering medical diagnosis.
In an interview with *British Vogue* published Wednesday, Pugh opened up about the emotional and physical toll of the haircut. "In many religions, hair is the most precious thing – it’s where you store your memories, dreams, and history. Shaving it off was really bizarre," said Pugh, whose previous work includes *Oppenheimer*, *Dune: Part Two*, and *Little Women*.
She noted that before shaving her head, she had sported a shoulder-length hairstyle. After the cut, her head became extremely sensitive, with people constantly wanting to touch it. "It was so alive," she explained. "My body went into a bit of trauma. I was cold all the time."
Interestingly, it was her co-star Andrew Garfield who shaved her head for the movie. Garfield admitted feeling nervous about the task, saying, "What if I somehow ruined the head of one of the best actors of her generation? But it ended up being a very beautiful, intimate scene, and thankfully, she has such a nicely shaped melon."
Pugh reflected that the role came at a pivotal moment in her life. "I was going through so many aesthetic changes while also making life decisions. I thought, 'I don’t look like me. I’m changing.'" She saw it as a time of personal growth, as she transitioned into a new chapter.
Pugh also hinted that she’s in a new relationship but chose not to reveal the identity of her partner.
