Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has reportedly agreed to a record-breaking four-year contract extension worth $240 million. The new deal, which solidifies Prescott’s future with the team, includes significant guaranteed money and places him among the highest-paid quarterbacks in NFL history. This extension reaffirms the Cowboys' commitment to Prescott as their franchise leader, ensuring that he remains at the helm of the offense for years to come.
Dallas Cowboys fans can breathe a sigh of relief, while Dak Prescott’s bank account gets a major boost.
Prescott and the Cowboys have agreed to a four-year, $240 million extension, including a record-setting $231 million in guaranteed money. The deal resolves one of the NFL's most high-profile contract situations and secures the Cowboys' star quarterback for the foreseeable future.
With this extension, Prescott will earn an unprecedented $60 million annually, surpassing the previous high mark of $55 million per season set by Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, and Jordan Love. His $231 million guaranteed also breaks the previous record held by Deshaun Watson by $1 million.
The contract was finalized just hours before the Cowboys kicked off their 2024 season against the Cleveland Browns. Prescott also reportedly received an $80 million signing bonus, setting yet another record.
Though the Cowboys' playoff shortcomings, in part linked to Prescott’s performances, remain a point of scrutiny, signing him to a massive deal was a no-brainer. Elite quarterbacks like Prescott are rare, and after an MVP-caliber 2023 season, where he completed 69.5 percent of his passes for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, Prescott has proven his worth. A three-time Pro Bowler, he also earned second-team All-Pro honors for the first time last season.
