Hezbollah pager explosions kill several people in Lebanon

BEIRUT, Sept 17 (Reuters) - At least three people were killed and over 1,000 others, including Hezbollah fighters, medics, and Iran's envoy to Beirut, were injured on Tuesday when communication pagers exploded across Lebanon, according to security sources speaking to Reuters.

A Hezbollah official, speaking anonymously, described the incident as the "largest security breach" the group has faced in nearly a year of conflict with Israel.

Israel and Hezbollah, backed by Iran, have been engaged in ongoing cross-border warfare alongside the Gaza conflict that began last October—the worst escalation in years. When contacted by Reuters, the Israeli military declined to comment on the explosions.

In a statement, Hezbollah confirmed the deaths of three individuals, including two of its fighters and a young girl. The group also noted that an investigation into the cause of the blasts is underway.

Among the fatalities was the son of a Hezbollah member of the Lebanese parliament, according to two security sources.

Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency reported that Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, sustained minor injuries when a pager detonated. "Amani has a superficial injury and is currently under observation in a hospital," Fars quoted a source as saying.
