This time, a woman's dismembered body was found in Bengaluru.
In India's Bengaluru, a woman's dismembered body was found inside a refrigerator in the Vyalikaval area, according to a report from India Today. Police shared this information on Saturday, although different media outlets reported varying numbers of body parts.
The deceased woman was identified as Mahalaxmi. She had been murdered and her body was cut into several pieces, which were stored in a refrigerator in her one-bedroom apartment, where she lived alone. Police believe the murder occurred two to three days before the discovery of the dismembered body. Senior officials sealed off the area upon arrival.
A forensic team and a dog squad were deployed to assist in the investigation. Mahalaxmi's mother told India Today TV that she learned of the incident when her daughter's landlord called her, saying, "There was a foul smell coming from Mahalaxmi’s apartment. My daughter’s body was chopped up and kept in the fridge."
Authorities are collecting evidence and continuing their investigation. Additional Police Commissioner (West Zone) Satish Kumar said, “The police found the body of a 26-year-old woman in the house. The body was cut into pieces and stored in a refrigerator. It is suspected that the crime occurred a few days ago.” He added, "We have identified the woman, but the investigation is ongoing."
Hindustan Times reported that according to Bengaluru police, the woman, identified as Mahalaxmi, was murdered by her boyfriend. This was revealed by the suspect’s brother, as both worked at a shopping mall.
After her divorce in 2023, 29-year-old Mahalaxmi was living in Bengaluru's Malleshwaram area, while her ex-husband lived elsewhere with their child. She had started a relationship with a co-worker around that time. However, tensions arose when her boyfriend suspected her of being involved with someone else, which may have led to the murder. Police have begun searching for the suspect.
The gruesome nature of the crime is reminiscent of an incident that occurred in Delhi on May 18, where a man named Aftab Amin Poonawala murdered his girlfriend, Shraddha Walker, and dismembered her body into 35 pieces. Aftab stored the pieces in a new fridge and over 18 days, disposed of them in various parts of Delhi's forested areas.
